To Have A Luck Like That!

Since I don’t have a job anymore I have returned to my old pass time of “sifting” through the cyber world for odd news. (Yup, you guessed right, I really have nothing else to do!!).  So here’s a short post of a news piece I found.

This piece I found today (in Yahoo) really makes me wonder what it would be like to have a luck like this guy. The post is about a guy from Wisconsin who found a 1.2 Carat Diamond while  sifting for gold in the mud from a friend’s well. He looks for gold and finds a diamond. Now isn’t that luck or what?

All the time we spend playing in the mud and what did we get! A big nothing,  if you don’t count the mud stains and slime.

This made me wonder what i would do if it were me in that situation… I’m not that big on the jewelry front  or keep it for a rainy day thing. So guess i would just sell it, instant gratification and money to enjoy things that I do like.

What do you think you would do??

Here’s the full article, if you want to read: Man finds 1.2-carat diamond in mud from friend’s well

Now, I ‘ll get back to my form of sifting.

Imagine Dragons, Halestorm and more..

Imagine Dragons and Halestorm are two new bands that I have been listening to.

I found Imagine Dragons from the trailer of “The Perks of Being A wallflower”. I liked the music . I tried out some other songs from there new album “Night Visions”. Each of their songs have different music which is one of the reasons I liked this band. These days many artists bring out albums where all or atleast most of the songs have the same tune. That gets boring super fast. I’m looking forward to hearing more songs from this band.
Here’s three songs from their album, which I think take the top spots.

1. It’s Time

2. Bleeding Out

3. On Top Of The World

Glee did a cover of  “Here’s To Us” by Halestorm(the other band I’m listening to). I have listened only to a couple of their songs but I have to say the song I liked the most is this one.

Here’s To Us

(P.S The song starts at 00.14)

Other songs currently on my playlist:

  • Hall of Fame – The Script
  • Celebrate – Mika
  • Try – Pink
  • Everybody Talks – Neon Trees

That’s all for now. What have you been listening to?

A Fresh Start..

Hello,

Its time for me to start writing again!

First of all a short description of what all has happened over the past few months. After a few failed attempts to comeback to blogging i decided to take a break till 30th September. My work schedule and exams and everything else made it hard for me sit down and write something. I tried to post some in between(few of the above mentioned failed attempts) but wasn’t happy with anything i wrote and ended up deleting them. Now my work schedule is going to clear up because i’ll be leaving my current office soon in search of greener pastures(hopefully there is such a thing). Even though it was tiring and crazy working there i enjoyed it(most of the time). I still have a week or so left before i officially become an ex-employee.

I have read some really good novels over the past few months and will be writing the reviews of those in the weeks to come. And for the music lovers, I have some posts reserved for the music i have been listening to.

When i started this blog last September, it was more of a experiment to see whether i can write anything at all. The only experience of writing i had till then was schoolwork. It’s still too early to call it a success since i haven’t blogged for months now. But i’m happy with whatever i have managed to write.Blogging here and sharing my posts with u all made me realize how much I like writing and i want to continue doing that. And a big Thank You from me to all the people who read my posts.

That’s all for this post my side. Now, your turn to add something to it;
What has been going on in your life for the past few months? I would love to know how you all are, what books you have read, which new song is stuck in your head.. anything you want to share is welcome so do leave a comment.

Till the next post..
Good bye from me and hope you have a good time.

Missing Blogging, Trying To Get Back To It!

Hello, everyone,

I hope there are some of you out there who still like to read my blog. I know I went completely off the grid. I haven’t read your blog posts or posted anything in mine and for that I’m really, really sorry! I need a little more time, three more weeks to be exact, and i will get back to blogging. Looking forward to reading your blogs and I’m excited to start writing again and have already started counting down the days.

See you all in three weeks!

The Gods Of Asphalt – H.E. Ellis

A great book written by one among us from the blogging world H.E.Ellis. It’s a book about destiny, love and family. The whole novel is from the perspective of a teenager. We all remember our time in high school. Simple things seemed liked big, live altering decisions. Sawyer Hayden is in such a state but what he’s dealing with is a little bigger than everyday high school issues.

All he wants to do is not repeat his father’s mistakes in life. His dad is trucker and criss-crosses the country dragging along Sawyer and his brother River in tow. Sawyer believes the reason for his dad choosing the job is to follow his mother Savannah, because he thinks his dad can’t forget her even after she has abandoned the family more than once. River is Sawyer’s half-brother, even though no one reveals this fact to them directly they have figured this out from the obvious difference in their looks. Sawyer gets his looks from his Spanish dad, while River looks like their mother’s boyfriend for whom she left the family. Sawyer finally has enough with following his mother around the country and decides to go live their grandfather Gus who he describes as an “old school badass”. He plans to attend school and to try and win a basketball scholarship for college all steps in his plan to not end up like his dad. The end result of this decision is that his dad stops talking to him and leaves with River.

Another result of Sawyer’s decision is that he meets Sarah, the one he believes he is destined to be with. It comes with its own complications like the fact that Sarah is planning to go away to college, she may still have feelings for her ex-boyfriend, she is the sister of Sawyer’s new best-friend Jeb and the main one is falling blindly in love is one of the ‘mistakes’ he doesn’t want to make. Living with his grandfather helps Sawyer understand more of his dad and that things may not be the way he always thought them to be.

I liked the writing style. If you have read her blog posts you know how well H.E can write. The novel is further proof to that. The first line itself reels you in. Loved the idea of adding a song for each chapter. Great job with song selection. They fit in with the story line and the picture we create of the characters when we read. It helps set the mood for each chapter too.I loved reading the book. Give it a try when you can.

Movie Review – The Avengers

There’s no words to describe how good this movie is!!!!! To describe it as “Absolutely Awesome” would be an understatement. As most of you know, Avengers are a group of Superheroes introduced to us by the Marvel Comics. The movie brings to life these superheroes in the most spectacular way possible. I admit I have never read the comics. I knew about these characters but I have never seen even a page of the comics. Thank you Marvel Studios and Walt Disney Pictures for the all the movies including Avengers or I would never have known about the Avengers.

The cast is truly superb. They were good in each of their own movies i.e Iron Man, Captain America and Thor but together they make it even better. They make the perfect group and the chemistry between all the actors works well. Here’s a list of who’s who in the movie – First the people we already know : Robert Downey Jr as Iron Man, Chris Evans as Captain America, Chris Hemsworth as Thor , Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow. Jeremy Renner joins the cast as Hawkeye and Mark Ruffalo as The Hulk. Each of the characters get equal importance in the movie so you get see all of them on their own and as a team. Tom Hiddleston is “Loki” , Thor’s adoptive brother and Villain of the year.

The movie picks up from the end of the movie “Captain America: The first avenger”.  Here’s what happens in short. There are no avengers in the starting. Tony Stark a.k.a Iron Man is busy as ever with making his own life better, Captain America is trying to deal with the new world. Hawkeye is working with Nick Fury, Black Widow is on some mission, Dr. Bruce Banner a.k.a The Hulk is working as a Doctor somewhere in India and Thor’s not on Earth so we don’t know what he’s been doing. Loki is on earth to take the Tesseract (the weird blue cube thing from the former movie that has the special powers and brings nothing good). Nick Fury (Samuel .L. Jackson) brings together all the superheores to bring down Loki.  Then there is there is the awesome action sequence of The Avengers Vs Loki’s Army. As you can guess the ending is “The goods guys win”. The movie has a fast pace but its not rushed so you wont feel like your watching on fast forward. Even though its an action movie they have managed to mix the comedy parts perfectly. Nothings out of place and none of the lines are out of order.

I might have made the movie sound a bit simple but its not. You HAVE to see this movie. I have watched other movies in 3D but this one is really well made. The effects are in the right parts and at the right time. Especially the action sequence with all the aliens and other stuff, the 3D effects in those parts were superb. And I have to say, the new guys to the team, Jeremy Renner and Mark Ruffalo, were soo good. Especially, The Hulk.

I would say this movie is a 10/10 and truly deserves it. Its a must watch movie and go for 3D.

Playlist Update

My playlist is always a mix of various genres. I find it better to to listen to different genres depending on whatever I feel like listening to at the moment. Right now, while I’m typing, I’ve got the soundtrack from the movie “Step Up 3” playing. I saw the movie yesterday and the I’ve got some of the music stuck in my head. Especially the song “Bust your Windows“, the one where they do the tango.

Okay, so about my current playlist. I am not exactly a Daughtry fan,and by that I mean I have heard maybe two or three of their songs. That said,  I like their new song. Its got good music. But I have to say the story-line for the video is a little stupid. A guy going after a girl just to give back a mobile phone?? And its not like he calls out/taps on the shoulder and says “Hey, you forgot your mobile”: there’s this whole action/chase sequence involved. Okay, I get it that the girl is supposed to be some spy or something but still, all this for a phone? Anyway, here is the video and links to some other songs on my playlist.

Daughtry – Outta My Head

James Blunt – 1973

Dev ft Enrique Iglesias – Naked

Shane Ward – No Promises`

Jason Mraz – 93 Million Miles

Twirl – It Girl

Movie Review: The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo

I finally got around to watching this movie. I have to say this is one of the few book-adaptations that i have seen which actually does justice to the book. The acting is truly superb. If you have read my book review then you know that I LOVE Lisbeth’s character. When I saw the Swedish movie I thought that Noomi Rapace was awesome and no one can be a better ‘Lisbeth’. So I was  pretty curious to see Rooney Mara’s acting. I’m happy to say she was just as good.

For those of you who have no idea about the movie/novel, let me give a little outline of the story. This is crime- thriller based on the novel of the same name by Stieg Larsson, following Mikael Blomkvist’s attempt to solve the mystery surrounding  the disappearance of a girl 40 years ago.

Mikael Blomkvist, a Journalist an part-owner of Millenium magazine is facing a libel case for mentioning the shady side of a businessman named Hans-Erik Wennerstrom. He looses the case and his savings. Henrik Vanger approaches him with a proposition. Solve the mystery about the disappearance of his niece and in return he would provide proof about Wennerstrom’s shady character to help Blomkvist. The Vanger family are millionaires once owning various businesses but the family as a whole can be described shortly as a dysfunctional and no ones seems to talk to one another. When Blomkvist asks for an assistant he is informed of a brilliant researcher, Lisbeth Salander, who actually did the background check on him for the Vanger family. Together they uncover a series of murders that might be the work of a serial killer and  disturbing secrets about some of the Vanger family members. The movie also follows Lisbeth’s life as a form of sub-plot.  When you read the book you get a definite mental picture of Lisbeth and I liked the fact that the movie portrayal of her character is the same as i pictured when reading. The ending of the movie is different from that of the book but it doesn’t spoil the movie in any way.

I don’t think i need to explain the movie in detail because between the book and movie and everything else surrounding this story almost everyone knows what its about. The cast was really good. Daniel Craig and Rooney Mara did an excellent job of bringing the characters to life.Cant wait to watch the next part. If you haven’t seen it yet it is a movie worth watching.

Comedies That I Can Watch Again & Again

Theres nothing like a good comedy movie to get you relaxed. Hmmm.. May be there are a few other things as well..a good book, Ice-cream, chocolate cake, a nice day at the beach…. Anyway.. Back to comedy movies..

I like watching them because it shows that there are worse goofballs out there than us. I’m not taking any names, you can figure out if the”us” applies to you. I believe there’s nothing wrong with being a bit silly sometimes. Without us the world would be one big, boring place.

I’m sure that all of you can name atleast one comedy movie that can make you laugh even if you have seen it twice, trice or more times before; or atleast watch again when you are too lazy to find a DVD or download something. The list of movies that I’ve watched a lot but havent got bored of are here. Let me know if any of them are on your list.

Good comedies leave you laughing like this!

  • Jerry Maguire

  • Shrek

  • Hangover – Part 1 and 2

  • Dumb and Dumber

  • Knocked Up

  • Bruce Almighty

  • Shaun Of The Dead

  • Father Of The Bride

  • Ferris Bueller’s Day Off

  • My Big Fat Greek Wedding

  • There’s Something About Mary
  • The Simpson’s Movie

  • American Pie

  • Zombieland

I’m sure there are more movies that belong in the list. But silly me can’t remember them right now..

Let me know the names of the movies that you would like to add to the list.

My Birthday, A Thunderstorm and Lots Of Work!

That kind of wraps up my whole week. First part, It was my birthday. Yours truly is now 21. There was no breaking of tradition for this birthday either. Just like every other birthday it went quietly and without a fuss (Just that way i like it).

Second part, The thunderstorm. It managed to knock out the power-lines and sent us back to something similar to the stone age.No power meant no T.V and no A.C. And since the storm decided to hit in the evening it meant we spent the night without any light so that ruled out chances of reading too. And in case you are wondering then the answer is No, we don’t have an emergency lamp and we never seem to have any candles around when its needed. But I’ve always liked thunderstorms, especially lightning, so it was not all that bad. I tried to get some good photos but trying to get a good shot on my 2MP camera seems next to impossible. I managed to get a few photos on which i want to try some editing and see if it gets better.

On to the last part, Work!! I had to erase every thought i had about my schedule being tough before. Well, the truth is there was not that much work but it just took more time than usual. No complains though, I like my work and its been a fun week.

So thats the round up of my week so far. And I’m happy to say I enjoyed it. Well not the part where i spent hours without electricity but, you get the idea..

How was your week? Any special plans for the weekend?
